Early Life

The narrative follows Don (Amitabh Bachchan), an elusive, ruthlessly clever underworld kingpin wanted by police forces across eleven countries. During a high-stakes police ambush, Don is mortally wounded and dies in the custody of Deputy Commissioner of Police D'Silva. Determined to bring down the sprawling international syndicate without alerting the cartel, D'Silva locates Vijay, a simple, cheerful, paan-chewing street singer and performer living in the slums of Bombay, who is an exact lookalike of the slain crime lord. In exchange for the education and care of two orphaned children he has taken in, Vijay agrees to impersonate Don and infiltrate the dangerous gang.

Career

Equipped with quick wits and minimal training, Vijay seamlessly assumes Don's identity, deceiving the syndicate as well as Roma (Zeenat Aman), a vengeful martial artist seeking retribution for her brother's murder. However, Vijay's perilous mission turns into a desperate struggle for survival when D'Silva is killed in an ambush, leaving Vijay as the only person who knows his true identity while being relentlessly pursued by both the underworld and the law. Don became an unprecedented golden jubilee hit in 1978, earned Amitabh Bachchan the Filmfare Award for Best Actor, and remains an enduring, trendsetting masterpiece of vintage Indian cinema.
