Driven by a desire to preserve and project Punjab's oral folk heritage, he moved to Ludhiana as a young man, where his fateful partnership with iconic lyricist Dev Tharike Wala (Hardev Dilgir) laid the foundation for an extraordinary journey in Punjabi folk music.

Career

Manak transformed Punjabi folk music by popularizing Kalian, a traditional narrative verse form dedicated to epic folklore, historic heroes, and deep philosophical themes. In collaboration with Dev Tharike Wala and veteran music director Charanjit Ahuja, he produced legendary masterworks such as "Tere Tille Ton," "Sucha Soorma," "Jeona Morh," "Sahiban Da Tarla," and "Yaran Da Truck Baliye." His thunderous, high-pitched vocal projection went on to heavily influence modern UK Bhangra and hip-hop producers worldwide, cementing Kuldeep Manak as an everlasting institution of authentic Punjabi vocal art.
